Age Verification Policy
Our Commitment to Responsible Retailing
At Dog’s Window Brewery, we take our responsibilities regarding the sale of age-restricted items extremely seriously. Under the Licensing Act 2003, it is an offence for any person under the age of 18 to buy, or attempt to buy, intoxicating liquor. It is also an offence for any person over the age of 18 to buy intoxicating liquor on behalf of any person under the age of 18.
We are committed to ensuring that alcohol is only promoted and sold to adults. To achieve this, we operate a strict Age Verification Policy across all our online sales and physical deliveries.
Purchasing Online
When you place an order for alcohol or any other age-restricted products through our website, you are confirming that you are at least 18 years of age.
To ensure compliance:
Account and Checkout Declarations: Users must confirm their date of birth or acknowledge they are of legal drinking age before completing a purchase.
Payment Verification: We primarily accept payment methods that require the account holder to be 18 or over (such as major credit cards).
Right to Cancel: We reserve the right to cancel any order if we are unsure of the buyer’s age, or if we suspect the purchase is being made on behalf of a minor.
Delivery Protocols and Challenge 25
The point of delivery is the final and most crucial step in our age verification process. We work closely with our courier partners to ensure that alcohol does not fall into the hands of minors.
Challenge 25 at the Door: Our delivery drivers operate a strict Challenge 25 policy. If the person receiving the delivery appears to be under the age of 25, the driver will request valid photographic identification to prove they are 18 or over.
No ID, No Delivery: If the recipient cannot produce valid ID when challenged, the delivery driver will refuse to hand over the goods. The parcel will be returned to our dispatch depot.
No Safe Spaces for Alcohol: Due to the nature of the goods, parcels containing alcohol cannot be left unattended in porches, garages, or other “safe spaces”. They must be handed directly to an adult.
Acceptable Forms of Identification
If challenged upon delivery, the recipient must present one of the following forms of approved identification:
A valid passport.
A valid UK photocard driving licence (full or provisional).
A valid proof of age card bearing the PASS hologram (e.g., CitizenCard).
Identification must be original, physical documents. We cannot accept photographs of ID on a mobile phone, expired documents, or ID that appears to have been tampered with.
Refused Deliveries
If a delivery is refused because the recipient is under 18, cannot provide valid ID, or is abusive to the delivery staff, the goods will be returned to Dog’s Window Brewery. In such cases, we reserve the right to deduct the cost of the failed delivery and return transit from any subsequent refund issued to the purchaser.
Staff Training
All our staff involved in the processing, packing, and dispatch of orders receive comprehensive training on the laws regarding the sale of alcohol, our internal policies, and the consequences of underage sales. This training is regularly reviewed and updated.
