Re-use and Recycle

Green As Our Brewery Can Be

As a brewery, we are always trying to take steps forward to be as green as possible. We believe that no matter how small the contribution to creating a more sustainable business, we will make it.

A few years ago we swapped from bottles to cans, after looking at the facts we knew that the cost of equipment was worth the return for the following reasons.

  • Aluminum cans are made from a single material, aluminum, which is a relatively abundant and recyclable resource. Glass bottles, on the other hand, are made from a combination of materials, including sand, soda ash, and limestone. This makes them more difficult to recycle and more likely to end up in landfills.
  • Aluminum cans are lighter than glass bottles, which means they require less energy to transport. This is a significant environmental benefit, as transportation is a major source of greenhouse gas emissions.
  • Aluminum cans are more easily recycled than glass bottles. The recycling process for aluminum cans is relatively simple and efficient, and it requires less energy than the recycling process for glass bottles.
  • Aluminum cans can be recycled more times than glass bottles. Aluminum cans can be recycled an unlimited number of times, while glass bottles can only be recycled about 10 times.

Recently we have been looking at our pump badges. Previously these have been made from paper-covered foam board, which is almost impossible to get recycled.

As a solution, we have decided to change to a full plastic backing.  Not only will this make them easier to recycle, but we have also chosen ones that we can reuse and are encouraging venues to send them back to us to put on a new front image, so it can go out again.

By taking small steps, you can make a big difference for the environment.
