National Success at BeerX: Silverware for Bridgend!

We are absolutely chuffed to bring you some cracking news from the national stage. After both picking up Regional Golds earlier this year, two of our absolute favourites from Dog’s Window Brewery have just scooped National Bronze medals at BeerX Liverpool!

It is a massive achievement for us, proving once again that some of the best brewing in the country is happening right here in Bridgend. Here is the lowdown on the award-winning duo:

Play Dead

This is a proper powerhouse of a Belgian Strong Golden Ale. At 9.4%, it’s a sophisticated, elegant brew that stays true to the Old World classics. Brewed with a 100% Pilsner malt base and traditional noble hops—Saaz and Perle—it delivers a refined herbal structure rather than a tropical punch. On the nose, you’ll find that iconic Belgian yeast character with notes of ripe banana, pear, and peppery spice. It’s remarkably smooth with a crisp, bready foundation and a gentle alcohol warmth that lingers beautifully.

Silent Whistle

Now officially a national award-winner, this American Pale Ale is a masterclass in getting the basics right. It uses a classic combination of Cascade and Citra hops over a malt bill of Extra Pale and Caramalt. It kicks off with a slight biscuity sweetness before opening up into a vibrant medley of grapefruit, pine, and a whisper of tropical fruit. With a clean, lingering bitterness, it’s an incredibly drinkable pint that is perfect for any occasion.

We’ve got both of these champions in the fridge at Nearest Beer Shop and ready to go. Come down to the shop, grab a few cans, and taste for yourself why the judges at BeerX were so impressed.

Cheers to local success! 🍻
